February 11, 2006

Here I am sitting in the patio on a beautiful Saturday morning around seven thirty. I got up about twenty minutes ago, made some tea for me and fix Sami’s coffee so it will be ready when she wakes up. The sun is shining brightly with not a cloud in the sky. The air is calm and cool.

This morning the birds are anxiously awaiting there breakfast and the pecho amarillos are letting everyone in the neighborhood know. There are three platforms around the back garden that we put the left over papaya, bananas, melon rinds and other delicious tropical fruits. And on and some occasions Sami give them the fresh fruit as well if there is not enough leftovers. There are many that are regular customers to out aviary restaurant. The ground birds looking for the seeds we put out for them and the humming birds that like the flowers that are always blooming. For the last two years, we have raised baby yiguirros (Costa Rica’s national bird) in a hanging plant under the eve of the patio. On Wednesday a Bobo decided to come into the kitchen to see why we had not fix there lunch. Sami was in the bedroom was taking a nap and I was in the other room reading. The crash of something on the floor woke Sami up and said “Juan what did you do now?” I exclaimed this time it was not me. It was a large plastic cup that Ivi liked to use to make fresh fruit drinks. He hit the window a few times trying to escape. I closed the doors to the living room and entry hall. Then we waited for a while and checked. We did not see him so thought that he went out the back door. Then Sami found him under the table a little shaken and frighten. We opened the door to the entry hall and the front door and he flew out with no problem.

I woke up with another event Thursday morning. My pressure was OK but I was having palpations again. When this lasted well into the afternoon we decided to call the doctor for a check up and another EKG and talk a little more about it. He said that not to worry that to will take me a while for my body to adjust to the medicine. He said that stress and anxiety are one of the major causes the tachycardia. I said I am in Costa Rica there is no stress here. We just laughed. I ask about caffeine as the doctors at the hospital ask me how much coffee I drank. He said that it is one main causes of arrhythmia as it could be the why of the palpations are reoccurring, so, no coffee, no Pepsi, no chocolate, no black tea. I never drank coffee until I met Sami so now she feels bad about that, and I had stopped for a few months after being sick and had just recently started to drink it again. I feel better now that I know that the EKG was good and the palpations are normal for a while. I had blood work done on Friday and Monday I go in for a treadmill test and a test to see if the thyroid is operating normal. This can be the cause the palpations and the medicine that I am taking may affect the thyroid gland.

I was supposed to return from Florida yesterday so we celebrated last night as if that was a fact. It was nice to relax and talk about everything, as Sami has had problems in these weeks as well.
