Holaa, como ya algunos saben, tuvimos una emergencia con Juan el viernes por la noche. Ya todo esta bajo control. Gracias por el
apoyo y cariño. Aqui la descripción que él hizo:
Hola
How are you all? I am fine as if nothing every happened, but I have a medical report on me. Friday evening around ten o’clock I had palpations in my heart. My pulse was very rapid and I could feel thebeats of my heart all over my body. I had no pain or shortness of breath. Sami called 911 and the ambulance was here in a few minutes.
In the meantime she called my doctor to get his opinion. From the symptoms she described to him, he concluded that it was a tachycardia.
The medics in the ambulance deduced the same. In ten minutes we were at the hospital and into emergency without delay. The doctor did an examination and concluded the same, then put me on an IV with a medicine to control the rhythm of the heart. I was on that for 24 hours and they wired me up to monitor my condition for everything.
After about three hours it started to return to normal. In the
meantime they did an EKG, x-ray, blood work, including for prick on the finger for diabetes. The doctors ask if I smoked or ever smoked, drank colas or a lot of coffee, drink excessive amounts of alcohol or use drugs. In the morning they did a cardiac ultrasound especially for the heart. The technician looked from a lot of different angles, my throat, under my ribs by my stomach, from my side and between them on my chest. Sami was there and saw my heart on the monitor and she said “I see a sign that said SAMI.” This was the most intensive examinations I have ever had and this at a public hospital the “Hospital Dr. Rafael Angel Calderon Guardia” in San José. The doctors and nurses were great. They took time to explain everything and to answer the many questions that we had.
And the doctors conclusion is, all there test were normal except for the fact that it was arrhythmia or tachycardia (the same problem that mom had). One side of the heart beats and then the other side, so there are two beats instead of one beat for the heart. The doctor said that there are many things that can cause a sever case such as mine. There is no sure way to know what the reason was. Arrhythmia or tachycardia is treatable with medication.
The ultrasound revealed that the upper right ventricle is enlarged.
There was no thrombosis or bad things, and the rest of the heart
looked good. The enlargement is the result of a weak valve between
the upper and lower ventricles which doesn’t close completely and
allows blood to return to the upper ventricle from the lower
ventricle. This made upper ventricle work harder than the rest of the heart. I have felt these palpations many times in the past but they only lasted for a few beats or few seconds and I never gave them any thought. So now I am on medication for the rest of my life: one aspirin, 100mg, once a day and Amiodarona Clorhidrato (Spanish) 200mg tablets twice a day.
The valve can only be repaired by surgery. Surgery is only used if the medicine fails to function over time.

And my conclusion is that I have had this problem for a long time
maybe even since birth. The reason I think that, is because I have always had pain in my legs and when I raise my arms over my head they start tingling within just a few seconds. The doctors have always said that it is a circulation problem and tried many things but never suspected that it may be my heart.

I am at home now (Sunday) after the two days stay in the hospital. I had planned a trip to California to do a little work leaving on Monday. The doctors said no travel until my body adjusts to the medication. This is too bad because it included a trip to Hawaii next Sunday for 5 days and on the return a stop in Florida for a trade show the first week of February.
Saludos, Juan
y besos de Samiiiiiiiiiii
